In 1953 Paris, Serge Mouille launched his first light, a 3 armed floor lamp. This lamp - inspired by the female form - and others in subsequent series went on to become iconic pieces of industrial design. His “Spyder,” design has informed many other lights through the years, and is a go to for our team as a way to add sculpture and light to a ceiling. Mouille’s career in lighting design was short lived, ending in 1964, when a licensing deal went south, and he decided to turn his focus to silversmithing, jewelry design and teaching the same.
Mouille’s timeless vision is still influential today in many other’s designs and at a range of price points. While his original pieces were all hand forged, time and technology have allowed newer pieces to be machine made. Both the classics and their current counterparts represent a range of design styles, but all add a timeless touch to a ceiling, decorating any surface with both light and sculpture.
