The most recent Baz Luhrmann version of The Great Gatsby brought with it an updated introduction to art deco details; the opening credits of the movie are a glittering illustration of deco pattern. I’ve long loved the style – from simple stepped details, to more ornate plasterwork columns and facades, to metal grillwork. We’ve used all of these inspirations in our designs at BHDM.
These motifs also appear in product – from lamps and furniture, like some Arteriors pieces we used for our deco-inspired “Legends of LaCienega” window, to tabletop designed by friend Joy Moyler. Deco is an easy thing to mix into – and dress up into your personal style. Take a look, and try using some of these deco-inspired pieces to “deco-rate” your space.
